Saints maintain their lead in third quarter

Third-quarter update: A 4-yard touchdown run by Mark Ingram helped give the New Orleans Saints a 35-17 lead over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The run capped a six-play, 92-yard drive for the Saints.

New Orleans had another scoring chance in the period but Garrett Hartley missed a 37-yard field goal.

Dallas scored at the end of the period on a 21-yard pass from Tony Romo to Terrance Williams with 41 seconds to play and then recovered an onside kick to regain possession. But the Saints' defense held and forced the Cowboys to punt.

Key stats: Drew Brees, 32 of 38 for 327 yards and three TDs; Mark Ingram, eight carries for 83 yards and one TD; Darren Sproles, seven catches for 76 yards and one TD, five carries for 12 yards and a TD; Tony Romo, 10 of 23, 128 yards, one TD; DeMarco Murray, 13 carries for 82 yards.
