Sean Kelley's key takeaways from Sunday's New Orleans Saints practice

First training camp practice in Metairie

The New Orleans Saints hit the practice field at the team's home facility Sunday for the first time during this training camp. The workout came less than 24 hours removed from the Saints' second preseason game. Temperatures were in the mid-90s.  Here are some observations:

  1. To help get his players re-acclimated to the climate, Coach Sean Payton had his team in helmets only.  It was certainly a lighter practice being the day after a game, too.  I will say the practice was a lot more involved than I thought it would be. Payton said his team handled things alright, and looks forward to a very important week starting after an off day Monday.
  1. Payton also hinted that he may be getting some players back from injury soon. He didn't name names but guys like Delvin Breaux and Keenan Lewis might be close. Breaux did participate in various forms Sunday. Any bodies that return this week would help this coaching staff fully realize what they have as we head for a very crucial weekend.
  1. We love takeways. Vinnie Sunseri picked off another pass in full team period Sunday. That's at least four for him in camp. Kyle Wilson also intercepted one. Wilson played well with one of the highest snap counts on the Saints' defense Saturday night versus New England.
