Sean Kelley's takeaways from Wednesday's press conferences

Reporters focused on Junior Galette's release

White Sulphur Springs, W. Va. - Some key takeaways from the press conferences New Orleans Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis and Coach Sean Payton heldĀ  at the start of training camp Wednesday.

  1. Ten of the first 12 questions presented to Loomis focused on the Junior Gallette situation. Loomis said many factors led to the release of Gallette on Monday and in the end the move was made in the best interest of the football team.
  1. Loomis also expressed genuine excitement for the upcoming season. He said those starting camp on the PUP list - receiver Marques Colston, safety Jairus Byrd and defensive lineman Glenn Foster - won't be long-term issues.
  1. Payton said he thinks he has the players on the roster to make up for the lost production in Gallette.
  1. Coach said this camp will be more challenging than the first at The Greenbrier in 2014, and his team is up to the challenge. Wednesday's conditioning test went very well. "We're in real good shape," Payton said.
