Veteran quarterback Seneca Wallace was one of three players who had their contracts terminated on Monday by the New Orleans Saints. Veteran wide receivers Steve Breaston and Patrick Crayton also had their contracts terminated.
The Saints on Monday also waived wide receiver Jarred Fayson, guard Ricky Henry, linebacker Chase Thomas and cornerback Dion Turner. The Saints waived/injured cornerback A.J. Davis.
The Saints also placed veteran defensive end Kenyon Coleman on injured reserve. Coleman injured a pectoral muscle during training camp.
Wallace's release leaves veteran Luke McCown as the favorite to become quarterback Drew Brees' backup. Ryan Griffin, a rookie out of Tulane, is also on the roster but lacks McCown's experience.
Wallace received his only game action of preseason in the second half of last Friday's 28-20 victory over the Oakland Raiders at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. He was 3 of 6 passing for 32 yards with one interception and one lost fumble.
