New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced today that the club signed offensive lineman Lucas Patrick and defensive tackle Kendal Vickers to one-year contracts and waived nose tackle John Penisini.
Patrick, 6-3, 313, is a seven-year NFL veteran who was originally signed by the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Duke in 2016. In his career, he has appeared in 96 regular season games with 54 starts at both guard positions and center for Green Bay (2017-21) and the Chicago Bears (2022-23). The Brentwood, Tenn. native also played in five postseason games with three starts at right guard for Green Bay.
In 2023, his second season in Chicago, Patrick played in 16 games with 15 starts at center for the Bears, who ranked second in the NFL in rushing yards per game (141.1).
At Duke, Patrick was a three-year letterman for the Blue Devils, seeing action in 44 games with 26 starts and finished his college career with 21 consecutive starts at left guard. As a senior in 2015, he opened all 13 contests and earned honorable mention All-Atlantic Coast Conference recognition, where he helped pave the way for an offense that averaged 192.9 rushing yards per game.

Vickers, 6-3, 295, is a three-year NFL veteran who was originally signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee in 2018. He joins the Saints after participating in their rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. In his career, he has appeared in 26 games with two starts for the Las Vegas Raiders (2020-22) and the Buffalo Bills (2023), posting 22 tackles (ten solo) and two sacks.
After competing with the Steelers in the 2018 preseason, the Havelock, N.C. native played in 18 games with the Canadian Football League's Edmonton Eskimos in 2019 and recorded 12 tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble. He returned to the NFL in 2020 with the Raiders, where he appeared in 15 games with two starts and recorded ten tackles (five solo) and two sacks. After he appeared in two contests in 2021, he played in eight games in 2022 and posted ten stops (four solo). In 2023, he played in two games for the Bills and posted two tackles (one solo), also spending the season on the practice squads of Buffalo and the Arizona Cardinals.
Vickers played in 43 games at Tennessee from 2013-17 and totaled 108 tackles (41 solo), 4.5 sacks and three forced fumbles.
