New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Tuesday that the club has signed free agent wide receiver Robert Meachem to a one-year contract.
Meachem returns to the Saints after originally joining the club in 2007 as the club's first-round draft pick (27th overall). The 6-2, 215-pound former Tennessee standout, who played for the San Diego Chargers in 2012, has played in 77 career regular-season games – all but 15 of them with the Saints – with 28 starts, and has posted career totals of 155 receptions for 2,476 yards with 25 touchdown grabs.
During his first New Orleans stint, he posted 141 receptions for 2,269 yards (16.1 avg.) with 23 touchdowns. His 16.1 yards per catch average ranks third in club record books. In six postseason contests, Meachem has recorded 14 catches for 184 yards with one touchdown.
The 28-year old Tulsa, Okla. native appeared in 15 games for San Diego with three starts in 2012 and posted 14 receptions for 207 yards, with both of his touchdowns occurring against the Saints in the matchup between the two clubs at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on October 7.
