NewOrleansSaints.com is giving fans an opportunity to submit their questions for their favorite players. Throughout training camp, the Saints will announce a selected player via the team's Twitter account (@Saints) and fans will be able to reply with questions.
On Wednesday, fans were able to submit questions for DE Cameron Jordan.
Jordan was selected by the Saints in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. After playing college football at the University of California, Jordan immediately entered the starting lineup for the Saints. Jordan appeared in 16 games with 15 starts as a rookie and recorded 59 tackles (27 solo) while adding one sack, six pass breakups and a fumble recovery.
How difficult has it been to have multiple defensive coordinators in the same number of years?
"Technically, this is my fourth defensive coordinator in four years. Starting in my junior year of college, my defensive coordinator left. Then we had Coach Clancy, who was the defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals when they went to the Super Bowl my senior year of college. Coming in to my rookie year, we had Coach Williams and now we have Spags (Steve Spagnuolo). It has been a change for me every year. It is fun to get in to a new defense, to get a quick dive. This one, I definitely feel more comfortable in. I can relate to this one. I have the same dreams and aspirations that the coach has for me. Hopefully they mesh together well."
Evaluate your progress in learning the new system.
"It is definitely not easy to say the least. They are so many different things for the d-line to do. There are so many opportunities. It is exciting but at the same time, you have to get in your study book. I feel pretty comfortable in it already but I will let the coaches tell you how comfortable they think I am in it. I think I am doing pretty well."
How do you feel about being moved around on the line and having different assignments?
"I think I can do it all, honestly. If you are going to ask me what I think I can't do, I don't think there is anything. If you asked me to play safety, I might be able to get you a deep third. Honestly, anything that coaches ask me to do, I am willing to do."
Do you find it difficult to live up to being a first-round selection?
"Not at all. At the end of the day, I don't know if I have to worry about other people's expectations because I put my expectations so high up there. I feel like I have so much to show and so much more that I can show that I can do. I am living up to my own expectations."
What are the differences between playing in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in comparison to other stadiums?
"When you play in the dome, it is almost like a video game how loud the crowd gets when an opposing offense gets on there, especially as they get closer to the end zone. It legitimately changes the game. There have been numerous times where offenses have had to stop and call a time out to try and stall out, not us, the crowd. It is the momentum that you get with playing with the crowd. You feed off of it. When you have a season like last year, we didn't lose in the dome. That just goes to show what we can do. Team effort, collective effort. Players and crowd. Fans and athletes together."
What are your expectations for this season?
"I don't have any stats or numbers to throw out. Honestly, I have them in my head but I am not going to put them out there. I think that this defense can be a top ten defense in the NFL, whereas last year we were lower tier, just because of the defense we are switching to. I have full belief in what Spags is teaching us and I am giving it my all. When you have so many guys buying in to the program, it can be a great thing."
What is your favorite activity outside of work?
"If anybody wants to come to see me. One day, me and my boy or my teammate might just show up at a bowling alley and anybody can come get some. I am averaging about 150 so I am not a pro bowler but I am doing pretty well."
