The New Orleans Saints announced they have signed center Connor McGovern. Here are five things to know about the Saints roster addition:
1. The Saints signed McGovern off the practice squad for the New York Jets. McGovern has been with the Jets since the 2020 season and was a regular starter before suffering a knee injury midway through the 2023 season. He played in 55 games (all starts) during his tenure with the Jets.
2. The 6-foot-4, 306-pound offensive lineman began his career with the Denver Broncos after they selected him in the fifth round (144th overall) in the 2016 NFL Draft. He would appear in 47 games (36 starts) at right guard and center during three seasons with the Broncos.
3. McGovern attended Missouri where he started in 40 of 49 games at right guard, right tackle, and left tackle. His 40 consecutive starts for the Tigers is tied for 13th all time in school history.
4. As a redshirt junior in 2014, he started four games at right tackle before shifting to a starting role for the final 10 contests at right guard. McGovern helped lead Missouri to the SEC Championship game and a 33-17 victory over Minnesota in the Citrus Bowl to culminate the season.
5. McGovern attended Shanley High School in his hometown of Fargo, N.D. He played offensive line and defensive line for the Deacons and helped lead them to consecutive state championships in his final two seasons in 2009 and 2010. He was also named the North Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year during his senior year.
