Two-time Super Bowl champion defender returns to home state

New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Wednesday that the club has agreed to terms with safety Justin Reid. Here are five things to know about the Saints roster addition:

  1. Two-time Super Bowl champion Reid joins the Saints after spending three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. Reid has played seven seasons in the NFL, playing in 106 games (102 starts) with the Chiefs and the Houston Texans and racked up 580 tackles (424 solo), 10 interceptions, one of which he returned 101 yards for a touchdown, 46 passes defensed, three forced fumbles and fumble recoveries and six sacks.
  2. Reid also played the role of emergency kicker during his time with the Kansas City Chiefs. He attempted two extra points, making one of them and has kicked off 16 times in his career for 1,001 yards and six touchbacks.
  3. Born in Prairieville, Reid attended Dutchtown High School where he was an All-State safety. Reid also was All-State in track and field and lettered in soccer.
  4. Reid is the brother of Eric Reid, former NFL Pro Bowl safety for the San Francisco 49ers and Carolina Panthers as well as Ryan Reid who played soccer at Coastal Carolina. He is also the son of Eric Reid Sr., a three-time All-American hurdler for LSU from 1984-87 and member of the LSU Athletic Hall of Fame. Reid Sr. won the NCAA championship in the 110-meter hurdles as a senior in 1987 and he holds the school record for the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.50 seconds.
  5. The safety created a charitable organization JReid InDeed with a focus on supporting disadvantaged youth and communities through interactive programs, community engagement and technology access with focuses on children in Houston, Baton Rouge and Kansas City. During the week of Super Bowl LIX, JReid InDeed hosted its annual Coding for the Culture event at Warren Easton High School which included two virtual computer science workshops and concluded with a coding competition for students to remix various beats and songs.
