New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Wednesday that the club has completed a trade with the New England Patriots for defensive tackle Davon Godchaux. Here are five things to know about the Saints roster addition:

  1. Davon Godchaux brings a home-state flavor as the Plaquemine native attended Plaquemine Senior High School where he was All-State as a defensive lineman before suiting up for the LSU Tigers for 37 games in college.
  2. The 6-foot-3, 330-pound defensive tackle heads into his ninth professional year after being drafted in the fifth round (178th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. The lineman has played in 120 games for the Dolphins and New England Patriots with 109 starts, tallying 429 tackles (205 solo) and 5.5 sacks.
  3. Godchaux adds experience playing multiple defensive schemes at the NFL and collegiate level. With the Patriots, Dolphins, and LSU, Godchaux has lined up as a 4-3 defensive tackle and 3-4 defensive end.
  4. Godchaux, along with his wife Chanel Iman, founded the Chauxdown Foundation with a mission to provide at-risk youth with programming that supports their education, fitness and overall well-being. Over the years, the foundation has hosted a number of events including an annual Chauxdown Football Camp at his alma mater Plaquemine Senior High School.
  5. Godchaux played three seasons with the LSU Tigers, receiving his first start in the fifth game of his true freshman season and would hold that role for 33 consecutive games. He finished his career in Baton Rouge with 145 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss and 12.0 sacks. He is also re-uniting in New Orleans with former LSU teammate tight end Foster Moreau.
