New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced on Thursday, March 13 that the club has agreed to terms with center/guard Will Clapp. Here are five things to know about the Saints roster addition:
- The former Saints offensive lineman reunites with the team that started his NFL career. Clapp was drafted by the Saints in the 2018 NFL Draft in the seventh round (245th overall) out of LSU. He played in 34 games (seven starts) over four seasons with the Saints. Clapp also played in one Saints playoff game in 2020.
- Clapp spent the 2024 NFL season with the Buffalo Bills, starting one game at right guard and playing in both of the Bills playoff contests.
- The 6-foot-5, 311-pound New Orleans native brings with him familiarity with the new Saints coaching staff After departing the Saints, Clapp joined the Las Angeles Chargers (2022-2023) where Kellen Moore was the offensive coordinator in 2023. Offensive line coach Brandon Nugent also coached Clapp for both seasons in Los Angeles and offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier also worked as the quarterbacks coach for the Chargers in 2023.
- Clapp was a three-year starter at center and both guard positions for the LSU Tigers offensive line from 2015-17, starting all 36 games he played. He was named a permanent team captain by the Tigers in 2017 and was First Team All-SEC twice, once as a center and once as a guard. Clapp reunites with former LSU teammates defensive tackle Davon Godchaux, tight end Foster Moreau and running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire on the Saints.
- Clapp attended Brother Martin where he was a a Class 5A All-State selection his senior year as well as All-New Orleans Area large schools and All-District 9-5A for the Crusaders.
