New Orleans Saints Community Recap for Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014

Recap of Tuesday's New Orleans Saints community efforts

ACME Truck Line Safe Driving Visit

New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan teamed up with ACME Truck Line to visit L. W. Higgins High School in Harvey.

The junior class gathered in the gym where Jordan and Mike Coatney, ACME Truck Line President, spoke about the importance of safe driving.

Coatney educated the junior class with important facts they should know when sharing the road with 18-wheelers.

"Driving is one of the most dangerous things you can do in your daily activities," Coatney said. "By partnering with the Saints, it helps us get the youth's attention and helps us get the message across about driving safe on the road and around trucks."

Jordan shared a few lessons that he learned from his driving experience as a teenager.

"We had a great group of kids," Jordan said. "They were really attentive to the lessons that we had to give. Which of course, was safe driving. Don't drive and text. Don't drive and Instagram. Don't do anything but drive and focus on the road."

"PLAY 60" visit at Esperanza Charter School

The New Orleans Saints visited Esperanza Charter School to promote the NFL's "Play 60" campaign as a part of Hispanic Heritage Month.

"We're so excited that the New Orleans Saints have brought this Play 60 program to our school," said Head of School Nicole Saulny. "Our population of students is 65 percent Hispanic and we are also celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. We really appreciate the Saints coming out."

Students participated in a Saints Junior Training Camp, which was designed to educate young fans about the NFL's "PLAY 60" campaign across the Gulf Coast.  "PLAY 60" is a national youth health and fitness campaign focused on increasing the wellness of children by encouraging them to be active for at least 60 minutes a day.

Guard Senio Kelemente joined in on the fun.

"I know when I was a little kid, we didn't have all these video games," Kelemente said. "If we wanted to have fun, we had to go outside and ride our bike, go play tag, go to the park and go play basketball. It's really important to come out here and run around and play with the kids and stay active."
