The New Orleans Saints and Verizon Wireless teamed up to #PassItForward around the New Orleans area on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
Joining Saints and Verizon staff members were defensive ends Cameron Jordan and Akiem Hicks, punter Thomas Morstead and long snapper Justin Drescher. Saints Ambassador Michael Lewis and mascot Sir Saint also joined in the fun.
The Verizon bus made four stops and the group showed its support of the community by meeting fans, signing autographs or picking up the tab at the four locations. Fans were alerted about 10 minutes before each stop through the Saints and Verizon official social media accounts.
The bus' first stop was at a Chevron gas station on Airline Drive. Customers at the pump received a free gas card. The players helped fill up the cars while passing out the gift cards and magnets. They also posed for photos.
The second stop was at Warren Easton Charter High School. Students were stunned when they saw Saints players roaming the hallways and popping into classrooms. Raising Canes provided buy one get one free cards that the players handed to students and encouraged them to #PassItForward.
The third stop was at the Verizon Wireless store in Mid-City where the group was able to meet and talk with store employees and customers.
The final stop was at the Elmwood area McDonald's restaurant where the players split up and helped the McDonald's staff serve up free meals to any customer that ordered during the visit. Drescher manned the cash register, Hicks and Lewis became experts at the drive-thru windows, Morstead mastered the frappe machine and Jordan supervised and entertained customers.
Fans are encouraged to now take their turn to #PassItForward. By using the hashtag, their good deed might be featured at www.vzw.com/saintspassitforward.
