<span style="">Playing football in the same building in which the New Orleans Saints practice nearly every single day is a pretty memorable experience for a seven or ten-year-old child. However, playing football in that building while Saints DE Will Smith "coaches them up" is the stuff dreams are made of for a young, aspiring athlete.
Regional youth teams such as the Pard Tigers, Gretna Gators, Lakeshore Packers and Jefferson Mustangs got to experience first-hand those exact thrills and moments of a lifetime when Smith hosted his first ever "Will Smith Gridiron Classic" on December 3rd at the Saints' practice facility in Metairie.
The four playground teams paired up and played two exhibition games while Smith instilled not only some of his football knowledge, but life lessons, as well, to the players. Former Saints wide receiver and kick-returner Michael Lewis also made a guest appearance at the event.
After the four teams played, they were treated to dinner in the Saints cafeteria and rewarded with a photo opportunity with Smith. Family members of the players were allowed to watch all of the proceedings, as well.
"We really appreciate Will Smith and the Saints putting this on for us. I know the kids loved it, but so did the coaches. It was a great time," said Jefferson coach Lyle Ball.
"It's great to be able to get out here and help teach these kids. I know they enjoyed it but it was a lot of fun for me, too," said Smith.
