New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced today that the club has re-signed running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire to a one-year contract.
Edwards-Helaire (last name pronounced EE-lair), 5-7, 207, was originally selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round (32nd overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft out of LSU. He has played in 50 regular season games with 32 starts for the Chiefs (2020-23), and Saints (2024), carrying 454 times for 1,891 yards (4.2 avg.) with 12 touchdowns, while catching 92 passes for 789 yards (8.6 avg.) with seven touchdowns. In 2024, the former Baton Rouge native and former Catholic high school standout played in the final two games for the Saints and rushed for 46 yards on 13 carries and caught three passes for 24 yards.
Edwards-Helaire appeared in 41 games at LSU, rushing for 2,158 yards on 370 carries with 23 rushing touchdowns, while adding 69 receptions for 595 yards and one touchdown. He put together one of the best seasons for a running back in school history in 2019 for the national champion Tigers with 1,414 rushing yards, the third-highest single season total in school history and 453 receiving yards on 55 receptions, the most catches in school record books for a running back, en route to first-team All-SEC honors
