New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Saturday that the club has signed tight end Kevin Rader. Here are five things to know about the Saints roster addition:
- Rader joins the Saints after spending the last two seasons with the Tennessee Titans. Rader had one reception for six yards with the Titans, but made his mark on special teams tallying 13 special teams tackles and playing in 413 special teams snaps during 28 games (two starts) with the Titans.
- Rader first saw NFL action with the Pittsburgh Steelers appearing in seven games (two starts) during the 2020 and 2021 seasons where he hauled in two receptions for eight yards as well as added six special teams tackles in 49 special teams snaps.
- The 6-foot-4, 250-pound tight end signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2018, competed in camp, but was waived ahead of the start of the season.
- Rader attended Youngstown State and initially played defensive lineman before switching to tight end. Rader appeared in 47 games with 26 starts, catching 41 passes for 601 yards with four touchdowns. Rader also racked up six tackles during his time with the Penguins.
- Rader attended Pine-Richland High School in Gibsonia, Pa., just outside of his hometown of Pittsburgh. He played defensive end where he was an all-conference selection as well as tight end.
