New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced today that the club has signed cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles, running back Jordan Mims, and safety Millard Bradford to the active roster, placed wide receiver Bub Means and running back Kendre Miller on Injured Reserve and waived guard Kyle Hergel. For Sunday's game against Carolina, New Orleans has downgraded running back Jamaal Williams (groin) from doubtful to out (will not travel) and elevated safety Roderic Teamer and cornerback Tre Herndon (standard elevations) from the practice squad.
Jean-Charles, 5-10, 184, was originally drafted in the fifth round by the Green Bay Packers (178th overall) in 2021 out of Appalachian State. After spending the majority of the 2023 season with San Francisco, Jean-Charles was signed to the Saints' practice squad in Week 13 and played in three games with New Orleans on special teams. Jean-Charles has played in 28 career games, recording three solo tackles and 12 special teams stops. In 2023, Jean-Charles played in eight games total (five in San Francisco, three in New Orleans), recording one solo tackle and three special teams stops, all with the 49ers. The fourth-year pro has spent the majority of the 2024 season on the Saints practice squad.
Mims, 6-0, 205, has appeared in six games for the Saints in 2024 on offense and special teams and carried five times for 16 yards, caught two passes for 13 yards and made one special teams stop. After originally signing with Buffalo following the 2023 NFL Draft out of Fresno State, Mims spent the majority of his rookie season on the Saints practice squad and appeared in two games, posting one coverage tackle. At Fresno State (2017-22), he rushed 679 times for 3,285 yards (4.8 avg.), ranked fourth on the school's all-time list, with 37 touchdowns and also caught 91 passes for 971 yards (10.7 avg.) with eight touchdowns. In 2022, Mims earned first-team All-Mountain West Conference honors with 261 carries for 1,372 yards (5.3 avg.) with 18 touchdowns and added 21 receptions for 126 yards and one touchdown. The Atherton, Calif. native became the first Bulldog to top the 1,000 yards rushing mark since 2014.
Bradford, 5-10, 190, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by New Orleans after the 2024 NFL Draft and has spent the entirety of his rookie season on the Saints' practice squad. The Helotes, Texas native played five years at TCU (2019-23) and was a two-time Honorable Mention All-Big 12 selection (2022-23). He finished his Horned Frog career with 231 tackles (175 solo), 16.5 tackles for loss, one sack for a nine-yard loss, four interceptions, 21 pass breakups, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
