Shemar Jean-Charles recognized for interception with NFL Way to Play Award

Saints cornerback will receive a $5,000 equipment grant to give to youth or high school football program of his choice

Saints cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles was named the winner of an NFL Way to Play Award for Week 9 in the Saints game against the Carolina Panthers.

Jean-Charles was honored for the interception he hauled in, the first of his career, with 9:22 left to go in the fourth quarter of the Saints game against Carolina, ripping the ball right out of Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette's hands.

The Saints cornerback will receive a $5,000 USA Football Equipment Grant from NFL Foundation for the youth or high school football program of his choice.

The Saints defender won the award in the first start of his career and seeing the field for the first time this season following cornerbacks Kool-Aid McKinstry, Rico Payton and Marshon Lattimore all being inactive. Jean-Charles also tallied two tackles.

The NFL Way to Play Awards fueled by Gatorade recognize pro, high school, and flag football players who demonstrate proper technique to make impactful plays. Each week of the NFL season players from all levels of the game are honored with a $5,000 USA Football Equipment Grant from NFL Foundation for the youth or high school football program of their choice.
