New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Monday that the club has signed wide receiver Kevin Austin Jr.. Here are five things to know about the Saints roster addition:
1. Austin's most recently played with the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL. Austin racked up 15 receptions for 253 yards and two touchdowns in 10 games (8 starts) for the Stallions.
2. On May 4, with the Stallions taking on the Memphis Showboats, Austin had four receptions for 108 yards in the 39-21 Stallions victory, including an 80-yard touchdown, tied for the second longest reception in the UFL in 2023.
3. Austin, 6-2, 200, signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He spent his rookie season on the Jaguars practice squad and went to training camp with the team in 2023, playing in three preseason games grabbing two receptions for nine yards.
4. Austin spent his college career playing for Notre Dame from 2018 to 2021, playing alongside new Saints teammates defensive end Isaiah Foskey and kicker Blake Grupe. He played in 26 games (13 starts) and hauled in 54 receptions for 996 yards (18.4 avg.) and seven touchdowns. In his senior season with the Fighting Irish, he started all 13 games for the team, recording 48 receptions for a team-high 888 yards as well as tying for the team lead with seven receiving touchdowns. He also earned first-team Phil Steele All-Independent honors for his performance that season.
5. The Ft. Lauderdale, Florida native attended North Broward Preparatory School. In his senior season for the Eagles, he caught 35 receptions for 761 yards and 11 touchdowns plus rushed 38 times for 390 yards and two touchdowns.
