New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced today that the club has signed tight ends Kevin Rader and Mason Fairchild, waived tight end Jesper Horsted and waived/injured wide receiver Jermaine Jackson. The club has also placed tight end Tommy Hudson on Injured Reserve.
Rader, 6-4 250, joins the Saints after spending his previous four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans. In his career, Rader has played in 35 games with four starts, recording three receptions for 14 yards and posted 19 special teams tackles. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native played five seasons at Youngstown State (2013-17), originally beginning his collegiate career as a defensive lineman before switching to tight end as a redshirt sophomore. In his career with the Penguins, Rader appeared in 47 games with 26 starts and caught 41 passes for 601 yards (14.7 avg.) with four touchdowns.
Fairchild, 6-4 260, joins the Black and Gold as a rookie free agent after playing five seasons at Kansas University. With the Jayhawks, Fairchild appeared in 56 games with 18 starts, hauling in 82 passes for 1,111 yards (13.5 avg.) with ten touchdowns. The Andale, Kan. native had a breakout season as a junior, catching a career-high 35 passes for 443 yards (12.7 avg.) and six touchdowns. As a senior in 2023, Fairchild caught 27 passes for 451 yards (16.7 avg.) with three touchdowns and was named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy for his work in the community.
